Artdob (Art - Date of Birth) began some years ago. I started painting pictures as birthday presents for the children of my friends. They proved very popular with the kids and their parents and I thought I might see if there was a potential market for the idea. Initially, I painted paintings to order. These included many details specific to the recipient. They were limited in that they took a long time to produce. So, in order to make it both profitable and economical I tried designing a more generic product that could be ordered online and produced within a 48 hour turnaround. Hence the "Name and Month" mixed media series. These paintings are specifically based around items of natural heritage abundant in Ireland and in season at particular times of the year. They are aimed primarily at the children's market. The design template is already painted and prepared. I then add the name and date of birth to the painting as requested.
A more bespoke range of artdob paintings can be ordered online on the enquiry/order page. These are more expensive as they take longer to design, and are, in their nature, inevitably more detailed. You can see some examples of these in the gallery page.
All paintings can be designed around Wedding anniversaries, Communion gifts, Christening Gifts and 'significant' Birthday gifts.
A little more about me;
I am originally from Co. Dublin Ireland, but I now live in lovely Co. Clare. I graduated with a BA in Fine Art Painting and a hDipAde from the National College of Art and Design and I went on some years later to do a Masters in Ethnomusicology at the University of Limerick. I have spent most of my time since leaving college painting on all kinds of surfaces, with all kinds of materials. Up to the arrival of children I was a specialist painter in pubs, clubs, restaurants and nightclubs in Ireland and abroad. Alongside this I worked in the art department of various film sets. I now divide my time juggling family life and daydream of having more time to create and paint. I am skillfully adept at avoiding the hoover and I thoroughly enjoy computer doodling in the evenings with a view to one day being a proper grown up
